Gregory Thomas Smith, Founding member of the Alianza Peruana de Sommeliers – ALIPS.
Gregory graduated from the University of Nebraska, but his professional trajectory would take him far from academic life. After having shown an international interest – he studied French and German literature – he finally found his vocation in the world of wine soon after he began working in the restaurant industry.

Gregory has spent forty years working in the world of wine and is a Certified Sommelier by The Court of Master Sommeliers. He is currently Commercial Director at Abever Vinos & Licores, a business headquartered in Lima, Peru, specializing in the importation and sale of European wines. Gregory previously directed the wine program at Central Restaurante for more than seven years, where his wine list was constantly rated the best in Peru and among the best of Latin America. During his time at Central he also supervised the bar program. Gregory is an educator of the new generation of Peruvian sommeliers and currently teaches at Le Cordon Bleu (Peru), La Escuela Peruana de Sommeliers (The Peruvian Sommelier School), and previously at The University of San Ignacio de Loyola’s Center for Global Education. Gregory is also a writer and independent wine consultant and publishes a blog on his website, GregorySmith.wine.
